G2 Winner Ramatuelle Continues Justify’s Hot Streak
The juvenile stakes winners kept coming for Justify on Sunday when Ramatuelle (2f Justify x Raven’s Lady, by Raven’s Pass) won the Group II Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly.
Eager to run in the six-furlong turf race under Aurelien Lemaitre, Ramatuelle was prominent throughout the race. She was still rolling in the final quarter and took the lead as the field approached the final furlong. Clearly having plenty left in the end, she won by four lengths over No Nay Never’s His Majesty with Calyx’s Classic Flower in third.
Ramatuelle has proven to be a dominant winner in three of her four races with those victories never coming by less than four lengths and her only loss being by a head in her second start.
Christopher Head trains the filly for Infinity Nine Horses, Ecurie des Monceaux, Hollymount Stud France, Chun Wai Kwok, Arthur Hoyeau, Ilse Smits, and Clement Tropres.
“She is so good, she behaves like an older filly and is a true professional already,” Head told Thoroughbred Daily News. “I am very lucky to train her and very grateful to the partners. I don't really know if she will stay further, but that's not the point at the moment. We shall now concentrate on the [Aug. 20 G1] Prix Morny and will do our best to get her there in great shape. It is another very exciting challenge.”
Ramatuelle was bred by Yeguada Centurion Slu as the first foal out of German champion and Group II winner Raven’s Lady. That mare is one of three winners out of a half-sister to Group I winner Best of the Bests and to the dam of multiple group winner and multiple Group I placed Prince of Arran.
Raven’s Lady stayed in the U.S. after foaling Ramatuelle and had an Uncle Mo colt in 2022.
Ramatuelle is the fifth stakes winner in eight days for Justify and one of three juvenile stakes winners for the Triple Crown winner this weekend alone.
