Galilean Adds Another Stakes to Tally in California Flag

Grade II-placed Galilean (4c Uncle Mo x Fresia, by El Prado) racked up another stakes win for Uncle Mo on Sunday with a victory in the California Flag Handicap at Santa Anita.

Racing over 5½ furlongs at Santa Anita, the race favorite raced in second throughout much of the running. Making his move around the turn, Galilean dug deep in the stretch to pull off a victory by a head when taking the lead in the shadow of the wire.

It was the sixth stakes win of Galilean’s career from 10 stakes starts. Trained by John Sadler, the colt is raced in partnership by West Point Thoroughbreds, Denise Barker, William Sandbrook, and the Coolmore partners.

A $600,000 2-year-old purchase by West Point from Eddie Woods, the Bar C Racing Stables-bred is out of a half-sister to Grade III winner His Race To Win and the dam of Grade I winner El Tormenta. The colt’s fourth dam is the bluehen mare Classy ‘N Smart, whose foals include Canadian Horse of the Year and top broodmare Dance Smartly and leading sire Smart Strike.

Galilean is one of 19 stakes winners and 35 stakes horses for Uncle Mo in 2020 with the stallion leading all North American sires by number of graded stakes winners and sitting just one behind Into Mischief by number of graded stakes horses.
