Girl Daddy Easily Wins Debut for Uncle Mo

Uncle Mo’s $500,000 daughter Girl Daddy (2f Uncle Mo x Cara Marie, by Unbridled’s Song) impressed on debut at Ellis Park Friday when running away from the field for the Albaugh Family Stables.

Girl Daddy broke a step slowly in the six furlong maiden race but quickly settled into a strong rhythm and rolled up the outside of the field to race into strong contention under Joseph Talamo. As the field raced into the turn, the filly was in third and making ground on the leaders to enter the straight challenging for the lead.

The filly had to find an extra gear in the final furlong but once she did, she was gone. Given a few taps early on when still dueling with her rival, Talamo barely moved a muscle in the final sixteenth of a mile as his mount romped to a 5½ length victory for trainer Dale Romans to be named a TDN Rising Star.

Purchased for $500,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale by the Albaughs from Bluewater Sales, Girl Daddy was bred by China Horse Club Limited.

Girl Daddy is the first runner out of Unbridled’s Song’s Listed winning and Grade II-placed daughter Cara Marie. That mare is one of three stakes horses out of her dam Miss Kilroy as a half-sister to Listed winning Abby’s Angel, the dam of Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Comicas, and Group I Irish Oaks second Miss Jean Brodie.

Winners run in Girl Daddy’s family with four of Cara Marie’s half-sisters producing stakes horses and the filly’s Grade III-winning dam also producing Grade II winner and stakes producer Miss Coronado and her Grade III winning and stakes producing half-sister Karen’s Caper.

Girl Daddy is one of 18 winners by top young sire Uncle Mo out of Unbridled’s Song mares with the cross also producing three stakes horses led by Uncle Mo’s promising Grade III-winning Kentucky Derby hopeful Uncle Chuck.
