Harvey’s Lil Goil Breaks Maiden For American Pharoah
American Pharoah’s winning roll continued on Thursday when Harvey’s Lil Goil (2f American Pharoah x Gloria S, by Tapit) relished a switch to dirt to break her maiden in her second start and become her sire’s 25th winner.
Running over a mile on the Aqueduct dirt, Harvey’s Lil Goil was content to sit just behind the leader on the rail after the break. When given the opportunity to move to the outside in the stretch, jockey Junior Alvarado wasn’t afraid to switch his mount out and it proved to be a wise move. Harvey’s Lil Goil relished the open ground in front of her and bolted home to win by six lengths for the Estate of Harvey Clarke, who also bred the filly.
Trained by Bill Mott, Harvey’s Lil Goil is out of Gloria S, a half-sister to Champion and dual classic winner I’ll Have Another and Grade III winner Golden Award. Gloria S is the dam of three winners from three foals and hails from the family of four-time champion Beholder, leading sire Into Mischief, and American Pharaoh’s Grade I winning stablemate Mendelssohn.
A leading freshman sire with winners around the world on dirt and turf from his first crop, American Pharoah tied with fellow Coolmore freshman sire Competitive Edge with winners and stakes winners. American Pharoah is the sire of four stakes winners and 11 stakes horses including Grade II Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Four Wheel Drive and three Grade I placed horses.
