Hendy Woods Second Stakes Winner Of Week for Uncle Mo
Stonestreet Stables homebred Hendy Woods (4f Uncle Mo x Separate Forest, by Forestry) became the second stakes winner in 24 hours for Uncle Mo on Thursday with a victory in the One Dreamer Stakes at Kentucky Downs.
The Mark Casse trainee was happy to race just off of a dueling pair of leaders that included American Pharoah’s Sweet Melania in the one mile turf race. Sweet Melania grabbed a clear lead as they entered the Kentucky Downs stretch but Tyler Gaffalione set down Hendy Woods for the run home and the battle began.
The pair battled a few lengths in front before Hendy Woods pulled away for a 4 ¼ length win with Sweet Melania over a length clear of the third place runner.
It was the fifth win in 10 career starts for Hendy Woods, who has won or placed in four stakes races for $528,451 in earnings.
Hendy Woods is one of three winners out of Grade III winner Separate Forest. Out of Group I winner Separata, Separate Forest is a half-sister to dual champion Indiano and Grade III-placed Quite The Lady.
Separate Forest visited Uncle Mo’s studmate Munnings last year and foaled a colt by the stallion in March before returning to Uncle Mo this year.
Uncle Mo’s other stakes winner of the week is following in Hendy Woods’s footprints. That 3-year-old filly, Burning Ambition, won the same stakes race Hendy Woods won in 2020.
