Her World Impressive Third Stakes Winner for Caravaggio
Her World (2f Caravaggio x Mundus Novus, by Unbridled’s Song) showed exactly why she was given such a powerful name when she romped home on debut to win the Tyro Stakes against males at Monmouth Park.
Highly regarded, the filly went off as a heavy favorite in the five furlong turf race and quickly showed why. The Wesley Ward trainee almost immediately took the lead and sprinted around the track. Paco Lopez spent much of the early stretch run glancing behind him as Her World lengthened her margin with every stride.
In the end, the filly crossed the line six lengths in front of American Pharoah's runner-up Trust Our Journey without every showing her best.
“We’re excited. She did exactly what we thought she would,” said Ward. “We don’t have to change much after watching that race moving forward. We’re going to bring her next to Keeneland, and then we plan on bringing her to the Breeders’ Cup.
“With what she showed today winning in a stakes race against colts who had experience, it’s encouraging. We’re going to skip right along and continue from this. I look forward to her next couple of starts but I also look forward to her being a 3-year-old, and I think (co-owner) Dick Brodie and the rest of the owners have a special one with her.”
Raced by Andrew Farm, Susan Molton, For The People Racing Stable, and Windmill Manor Farm, the Irish-bred Her World was a $400,000 purchase by Stripes Stable and Susan Moulton from Gainesway’s consignment at Keeneland September.
Bred by Lynch Bages and Rhinestone Bloodstock, Her World is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade I-placed Consort and to the dam of stakes winner Never Back Down. Their dam Mundus Novus is a three-quarter sister to Grade II winner Surya, who also produced Grade I winner Aruna and Grade II winner Hoop Of Color in addition to stakes-placed Namaskara.
Mundus Novus had a No Nay Never colt last year, making that one a three-quarter brother to Her World.
Caravaggio’s three stakes winners tops all Northern Hemisphere sires with his 14 winners topping all North American sires of any age.
