Howard Wolowitz Sixth Grade I Winner for Munnings
Lightly raced Howard Wolowitz (3c Munnings x Forget Me Not, by Uncle Mo) made his fourth start count on Saturday with a win in the Grade I Franklin-Simpson Stakes.
The Jose D’Angelo trainee went off as the favorite in the 6 ½ furlong turf race and was positioned four wide early on just about two lengths behind the leader. The field was tightly packed in the turn and Howard Wolowitz took a spot to the outside of the field in hopes of a clear run.
That was exactly how the race worked out with Howard Wolowitz taking the lead in the final furlong. The colt was headed briefly before finding a second win and pulling away to win by a length in the end.
The Gold Square representative has won two of his four starts and was winning his first stakes. The colt had been a $240,000 Keeneland January purchase as a short yearling and in only four starts has $1.215 million in earnings.
He is the first runner out of Uncle Mo’s winning daughter Forget Me Not. That mare is one of six winners for her own dam and a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Needs Supervision. Each of Howard Wolowitz’s first four dams have now produced at least one stakes winner after his Saturday victory.
Munnings is the sire of nine stakes winners in 2024, putting him ninth among all North American stallions this year with his 20 stakes performers putting him 12th in that category.
