In Ecstasy Wins Second Straight for Caravaggio
In Ecstasy (2g Caravaggio x Longing, by Galileo) made a second straight visit to the winner’s enclosure on Wednesday with a three-quarter length victory at Dundalk.
The White Birch Farm runner again showed he enjoys running a mile over the synthetic surface with his victory. The early running saw him close to the leaders before Declan McDonagh asked the gelding to get serious with a quarter mile to go.
His former race experience came in handy with a furlong left to run when he went through a hole to take over the lead. He kept motoring to the line to win by three quarters of a length for two wins in three starts.
Trained by Joseph O’Brien, the 205,000gns purchase bred by Mountain View Stud and J C Bloodstock is the first foal out of the winning Galileo mare Longing.
That mare is a half-sister to Group III winner Ladys First and out of a half-sister to Spanish champion Azafata, who produced Group II winner and multiple Group I winner Fleeting.
In Ecstasy is one of 25 winners for Caravaggio, who has hit it out of the park with his four first crop stakes winners including Group I winner Tenebrism among eight stakes performers in four different countries.
