Jaxon Traveler Gives Munnings Saturday Stakes Double
Juvenile Jaxon Traveler (2c Munnings x Listen Boy, by After Market) gave his sire a stakes double on Saturday while staying undefeated with a win in the Maryland Juvenile Futurity only hours after Sharp Starr’s victory.
Racing over seven furlongs on the dirt, the Steve Asmussen trainee broke well and went straight to the front. The race favorite raced with a horse pushing him throughout but was relaxed even with the pressure and pulled away as they entered the stretch.
Given mostly a hand ride by Johan Rosado, his margin was cut into near the line but it was clear the colt had more to give if needed with a three quarter length victory to take his record to three-from-three.
Purchased by West Point Thoroughbred for $140,000 at this year’s OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, that partnership is joined by Marvin Delfiner in Jaxon Traveler’s racing ownership.
The colt bred by Dr. and Mrs. A. Leonard Pineau is out of their stakes-placed Listen Boy, the dam of four winners from four to run.
A leading sire of juveniles year after year, Munnings’ current crop of 2-year-olds includes stakes winner and Grade I-placed Alda, the aforementioned Jaxon Traveler and the stakes placed duo of Vulcan and My Beautiful Bride.
