Justify Colt Dominates First Session of Keeneland September Book 2
Justify saw his first $1 million yearling of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale on Wednesday when a colt out of True Feelings brought $1.55 million to easily secure the session lead and ultimately bring the second highest price of the session.
Purchased by Talla Racing and West Point Thoroughbreds, the Stonehaven Steadings bred and offered colt is a half-brother to stakes winner Feeling Mischief and American Pharoah’s Grade III-placed Royal Act. A stakes-placed runner herself, True Feelings is a half-sister to the dam of champion Wait a While.
This colt’s granddam is the Grade III winner Grand Charmer with a familiar name to Coolmore America fans on the page – Ashford’s own dual champion Lookin At Lucky.
Justify also saw his colt out of Flaming Heart bring $675,000 from HR Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds and Woodford Racing.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales for WinStar Farm Bred and Raised, the Justify son is a half-brother to Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Commissioner, Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Laugh Track, and Grade III-placed Intrepid Heart. Also among the colt’s half siblings is winning Street Cry mare Mythical Bride. Owned by Justify’s breeder Glennwood Farm, Mythical Bride is the dam of Justify’s one-time pasturemate and champion racehorse Vino Rosso.
Justify’s others offered in the first session of Book 2 brought $525,000, $450,000, etc. with an average of $475,556 for the nine sold in the session.
The debut of Justify’s first yearlings at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale has gone as well as expected with the 36 sold through the first session of Book 2 averaging $484,778 with a median of $442,500 for a gross of $17,452,000 – the best of any stallion at the sale.
