Justify’s Tres Soles Wins Churchill MSW
Tres Soles (2c Justify x Chocolate Souffle, by Tapit) was another debut winner for Justify on Thursday evening with a Churchill Downs Maiden Special Weight victory.
The Steve Asmussen trainee was the first out of the gate in the six furlong race and entered a duel with another runner soon after. Neither colt refused to give in and Tres Soles showed a commendable amount of grit for a horse making his debut when the 2-year-old refused to give in even when pressured throughout the race. He took a slight advantage inside the final furlong to have his neck in front at the line with the rest of the field 6 ¼ lengths behind the top duo.
A $400,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase by racing owner Winchell Thoroughbreds from Brookdale Sales, Tres Soles was bred by Rock Brothers Breeding in Kentucky.
Tres Soles is the first foal out of Chocolate Souffle, a daughter of Grade III winner and multiple Grade I-placed Super Espresso. That mare is also the dam of stakes placed Eamonn. This family also includes Grade I winners Althea, Balletto, Acoma, Covfefe and others.
Chocolate Souffle has a yearling filly by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah as well.
Leading all Northern Hemisphere freshman sires by number of stakes winners and graded stakes winners at four and three respectively, undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify is also the sire of 16 winners.
