Juvenile Stakes Double for Uncle Mo

Fresh from hot results in the sale ring at Keeneland September, Uncle Mo has also proven to be in a hot vein of form on the track with a pair of new juvenile stakes-winners over the weekend.

Promising filly Monkey’s Uncle (2f Uncle Mo x Humor Section, by After Market) made it two wins in as many starts when she powered home from back in the field to score a half length win in the $100,000 Selima Stakes at Laurel.

“Her trainer Arnaud Delacour told me six furlongs would probably be a little short, but we had to try it, so I just wanted to break and settle her down and try to make one run,” winning rider Daniel Centeno said.

“I tried to save a little ground on the last turn, but it’s really soft and the ground was giving out, so I moved outside and she saw the clear. I moved a little early and a little wide but she held it all the way to the wire. She was a little more focused today. She’s a really smart filly and she really tried.”

A $180,000 yearling purchase that made $300,000 at the OBS March 2YO Sale earlier this year, Monkey’s Uncle (pictured) is the first winner for Humor Section, a half-sister by After Market to Grade I winner to Last Full Measure from Grade I winner Lazy Slusan.

The Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt Galilean (2c Uncle Mo x Fresia, by El Prado) made a winning debut in the $100,000 Los Alamitos Barretts Juvenile Stakes, producing a tenacious effort to win the six and a half furlong sprint by half a neck.

The $600,000 sale-topper at April’s Barretts Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, Galilean is the first winner for Fresian, a half-sister to Grade III winner His Race to Win.

Monkey’s Uncle and Galilean brought the stakes-winner tally for Uncle Mo to 44 stakes-winners.
