Legacies Another Australian Stakes Winner For Justify
Justify’s Australian success continued on Saturday when Legacies (2f Justify x Abyssinie, by Danehill Dancer) stayed undefeated with a dominant performance in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes.
Racing over seven furlongs at Sandown, the filly raced behind the leaders early on with Luke Nolen showing patience on his mount. Despite only making her second start, Legacies showed plenty of professionalism to race away from the field in the stretch with Nolen easing her down to a 4 ½ length victory.
A homebred runner for Rosemont Stud, Peter Moody trains the filly and noted that the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas is her long-term target.
“I think she’s a lovely horse. She’s going to be a better three-year-old than two-year-old, so this is a massive bonus for the team. Owned and bred by Anthony (Mithen) and Nigel (Austin) and the team down there at Rosemont,” Moody said. “A home-bred for them and always good to get a result for the team that supports us so well.”
Legacies is one of four winners out of Abyssinie from five to race. That mare is a three-quarter sister to champion Aquarelliste and multiple Grade I winner Artiste Royale with Aquarelliste also producing multiple stakes winners.
The sire of Grade I Kentucky Derby hopeful Verifying, Justify is the sire of two stakes winners from 10 Southern Hemisphere-foaled runners with the group including multiple group winner Learning to Fly.
