Lil Miss Moppet Gives Uncle Mo Saturday Stakes Double
Lil Miss Moppet (4f Uncle Mo x Winiliscious, by Lawyer Ron) extended her win streak to four when taking out the Pinot Grigio Handicap at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Racing over 5½ furlongs, Lil Miss Moppet broke like a rocket and immediately went to the lead. Galloping easily under Joe Bravo, the 4-year-old filly started to pull away in the turn without being asked to give herself a solid margin entering the stretch. Bravo barely had to move the reins in the closing stages as Lil Miss Moppet extended her lead to an eased down three lengths.
Trained by Peter Miller for Phoenix Thoroughbred, Lil Miss Moppet was a $400,000 OBS March 2-Year-Old purchase by Phoenix from Crupi’s New Castle Farm. The filly has now won four of seven starts for over $170,000 in earnings.
Bred by Joseph Ioia, Lil Miss Moppet is the first foal for Listed placed and Grade II fourth Winiliscious, who is also the dam of a winning 3-year-old Lookin at Lucky colt, a 2-year-old winning Munnings filly, and a yearling Lookin At Lucky filly.
One of two stakes horses for her dam, Winiliscious is also a half-sister to the dam of Grade III winner Gentle Ruler.
Becoming her sire’s 69th stakes winner with her victory, Lil Miss Moppet was the second new stakes winner of the day for Uncle Mo after Lipizzaner’s victory in England Saturday morning.
