Lookin At Lucky’s Hongkong Great Records Another Impressive Victory
Lookin At Lucky’s Chilean champion and three-time Group I winner Hongkong Great (5g Lookin At Lucky x La Sinverguenza, by Scat Daddy) won his third start of the season in tremendous style at Sha Tin on Saturday with a 5 ½ length win.
Known as El Picaro in his home country, he was running just under 1 1/16 miles on the all weather track and happily took the lead nearly from the start. Keenly racing under Zac Purton, the gelding kept at least a length on the field down the backstretch with Purton sitting like a statue.
In only a few strides, the Champion opened up multiple lengths as they raced into the straight and galloped home easily with Purton never asking him for much.
Trained by Danny Shum for the Healthy and Happy Racing Syndicate, Hongkong Great has won three of five starts by a combined 11 ¾ lengths in 2021.
One of two Looking At Lucky winners out of the unraced Scat Daddy mare La Sinverguenza, Hongkong Great’s dam is a full sister to Chilean champion Cimalta, three-time Group I winner El Farrero, and Lookin At Lucky’s own stakes winning La Encacha.
Lookin At Lucky has found major success with this family - Hongkong Great’s dam is also a half-sister to the granddam of his Group I winner La Canita as well with another Lookin At Lucky Grade I winner in Tokerau under the gelding’s third dam.
