Lookin At Lucky’s Lukka Doubles Up On G1 Victories
It was a second Group I win in as many months for Lookin At Lucky’s Lukka (3c Lookin At Lucky x Antic, by Kitten’s Joy) on Sunday when he won the Group I Clasico Club Hipico de Santiago.
Cutting back to 1 ¼ miles after going 1 3/8 miles last out, the 3-year-old quickly took up a place in midpack as the race favorite while the field stretched out over almost 20 lengths down the backstretch. Not much changed until they turned into the stretch and the winner had to dig in deep to get to the front.
Flying down the stretch, it looked like Lukka would run out of time to get his second career Group I but he timed it perfectly to win by a nose.
Trained by Juan Pablo Baeza for Haras Jockey, Lukka was bred by Haras Don Alberto and is the winner of three of his nine starts with six other top three finishes. A back-to-back Group I winner, Lukka is familiar with the level with seconds in the Group I Clasico El Ensaya and the Group I Clasico El Derby and a third in the Group I Clasico Nacional Ricardo Lyon in his career as well.
He is one of two Group I winners for his Kitten’s Joy dam Antic, who also produced Group I winner and U.S. stakes winner First Constitution. Antic is a half-sister to Group I winner Admiral and multiple Group II winner Avay.
An evergreen stallion on the Ashford roster, Lookin At Lucky has sired 19 worldwide Grade I winners with 42 runners placing at the level. Among those are champion Accelerate and Grade I Kentucky Derby winner Country House plus U.S. and Chilean Grade I winner Wow Cat.
