Lookin At Lucky’s Royal Luck Wins G3 Clasico Alvaro
Lookin At Lucky saw his 2-year-olds finish first and third in Friday’s Group III Clasico Alvaro Covarrubias at Club Hipico de Santiago with Royal Luck (2c Lookin At Lucky x Starrily, by Southern Halo) leading the charge.
Royal Luck was happy to run in the back of the field early in the one-mile race on turf with two rivals beaten. Racing over five lengths off the leaders as they dueled up front, Royal Luck looked like he had his work cut out for him in the final two furlongs.
That thought ended seconds later as he raced up the inside to collar the leader and win by half a length with Lookin At Lucky’s Look Dad a length and a half behind the second place runner.
Bred and raced by Haras Matriarca, the colt is one of three winners out of a half-sister to multiple group winner Star Quality. That mare is also the dam of a stakes horse and the granddam of a stakes winning, Grade I-placed runner by Scat Daddy.
The family also includes two-time Group I winner Schoolmistress and Group I winners Oferecido and Venusino.
Royal Luck is the 17th 2-year-old stakes winner for Lookin At Lucky, who has seen 42 of his juveniles perform at stakes level.
That group includes Grade I winner Wow Cat and four other Grade I winners with the stakes winners also including Grade III winner Lucky Player, and his stakes winning, future Grade I Kentucky Derby second Lookin At Lee and the versatile Diamond Oops
