Lukka 19th Grade I Winner For Lookin At Lucky
Already a multiple Group I placed runner, Lukka (3c Lookin at Lucky x Antic, by Kitten’s Joy) became Lookin At Lucky’s 19th worldwide Grade I winner with a victory in Saturday’s Group I Clasico Hipodromo Chile.
Racing over 1 3/8 miles on the dirt, Lukka was one of the last markers in the stretched out field as a pacesetter opened up on the field with to others also lengths out in front around the track. Racing around the far turn, Lukka started steadily improving as the field caught the front runners and made his bid in the stretch.
Another horse was loathe to let the winner by but Lukka proved to be the more talented of the pair to win by half a length when the duel was finally done.
Trained by Juan Pablo Baeza for Haras Jockey, Lukka was bred by Haras Don Alberto and has finished in the top three in all eight of his starts. Among those are seconds in the Group I Clasico El Ensaya and the Group I Clasico El Derby.
The 3-year-old is the second Grade I winner for Antic alongside First Constitution with Antic having four inners from six to race overall. The mare is a half-sister to Rock of Gibraltar’s Group I winner Admiral and Mastercraftsman’s Group II winner Avay.
Lookin At Lucky is the sire of 18 Grade I winners and 42 Grade I performers with the group including Grade I Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic winners.
