Madonnadelrosario Continues Caravaggio’s Roll
The Caravaggio show kept rolling in Ireland on Friday when Madonnadelrosario (2f Caravaggio x Muravka, by High Chaparral) broke her maiden at the Curragh.
Racing over seven furlongs on the Irish turf for the Coolmore partners and Westerberg, Madonnadelrosario was the closest to the stand’s rails as they raced down the straight. Madonnadelrosario traded the lead back and forth with the horse on the far rail until the running got serious.
Inside the final two furlongs, Madonnadelrosario was challenged and briefly lost the lead before rallying back inside the final sixteenth. She stuck her nose in front in the shadow of the wire to have half a length on the field in the end over The Gurkha’s filly Malayan.
Bred by Barronstown Stud, the Aidan O’Brien-trained Madonnadelrosario is a three-quarter sister to No Nay Never’s Group III winner and Group I-placed Unicorn Lion and a half-sister to Starspangledbanner’s French champion The Wow Signal and Rock of Gibraltar’s stakes winner and Grade II-placed Miss Infinity.
Scat Daddy sons bred to High Chaparral mares like the cross Madonnadelrosario is bred on has produced eight winners from 10 runners. That count includes two Group III winners, including this year’s Group I Prix Morny fourth Armor.
Unraced herself, Muravka is a half-sister to stakes winner Tolpuddle and Grade III-placed Prevalence with her multiple stakes winning dam a half-sister to Group I winner Ta Rib. Muravka had a full sister to Unicorn Lion this year.
Madonnadelrosario is the third winner of the week for Caravaggio after Agartha won the Group II Debutante last Saturday and Don Julio broke his maiden on Thursday. The stallion now has 17 winners, the most of any North American freshman and second most of any Northern Hemisphere freshman this year.
