Maryland Mo Newest Winner For Uncle Mo
Making his second start for in-form trainer Graham Motion, Maryland Mo (3c Uncle Mo x Who’s Cozy, by Cozzene) proved to love his switch to turf when winning a Maiden Special Weight at Laurel.
Racing over 1 1/16 mile, the 3-year-old broke sharply and angled in to take a spot on the rail quickly out of the gate, racing keenly for jockey Trevor McCarthy in third. Relaxing to gallop comfortably behind the leader down the backstretch, Maryland Mo had to wait patiently for a hole around the far turn but luck was on his side when the leader shifted out to leave him a golden path up the rail.
Maryland Mo took full advantage of it, grabbing the lead in the stretch and leaving the field behind him to cross the line 2 ½ lengths ahead for owner Albert Frassetto.
Bred by Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds in Maryland, Maryland Mo is a half-brother to Listed winner Who’s In Town, Listed placed Campaign Vows, and the dam of Listed placed Buff’s In Love.
One of six winners from six to race out of Listed placed Who’s Cozy, Maryland Mo is a grandson of Grade II winner Who Did It And Run and from the family of Grade I winner Cost of Freedom.
Uncle Mo is having another banner year in 2020 with 100 winners worldwide in the first five months of the year with his five graded stakes winners including top Kentucky Derby contenders Modernist and King Guillermo.
