Mo See Cal Latest Stakes Winner For Uncle Mo
The consistent Mo See Cal (5m Uncle Mo x Do Dat Blues, by Lydgate) added a stakes win to her impressive resume on Sunday in the Betty Grable Stakes at Del Mar.
Racing over seven furlongs on the dirt, Mo See Cal was taking on a field where all but two horses have blacktype – including multiple graded stakes winners. Taking up her place in third a few paths off the rail, Mo See Cal was happy to sit in her spot until they hit the three furlong marker.
From there, she gunned for the lead and there was no stopping her.
Mo See Cal pushed her margin to open lengths in the stretch with Flavien Prat easing down on her in the final sixteenth for a 3 ¾ length win.
“We were just cruising on the backside and when we came up to the turn I decided to see what she could do,” said jockey Flavien Prat. “She responded well. I don’t know if the blinkers (added in this race) made a difference, but if they did it was a good one.”
Trained by Peter Miller for Rockingham Ranch, it was the sixth time the mare has visited the winner’s circle with six other top three finishes in 19 starts. The mare was making her first start in nearly a year.
Bred by Rozamund Barclay, Mo See Cal is the first foal for multiple stakes winner Do Dat Blues. They come from the family of Grade III winner Motovato and Puerto Rico champions Esplendorosa and La Irunesa with stakes horses under each of Mo See Cal’s first four dams.
Mo See Cal is the 22nd stakes winner of the year for her leading sire Uncle Mo and gives him his 70th career stakes winner from six crops of racing age with the stallion also having 116 stakes horses in 10 different countries.
