Kathryn the Wise (Uncle Mo) winning the Critical Eye Stakes at Belmont Park

More Stakes Success for Kathryn

Progressive mare Kathryn the Wise (6m Uncle Mo x Shea d'Lady, by Crafty Prospector) was a dominant winner of the $200,000 Critical Eye Stakes at Belmont on Monday.

A homebred for Lawrence Goichman prepared by Chad Brown, Kathryn the Wise has been raced sparingly, but is in hot form this year and powered clear to win the one mile contest by five lengths.

“My filly broke well and I didn't want to take anything away that came easy,” said winning rider Javier Castellano.

“She broke on top and I let her run her own race. She galloped along on the lead and she was just amazing. The way she did it today, I was very impressed. I have to thank Mr. [Chad] Brown for giving me the opportunity to ride the filly. It was my first time on her and she made me look good today.”

Already a stakes-winner before this win, the talented daughter of Uncle Mo has won five of eight starts earning over $385,000 in prizemoney.

She is the best of three winners from Shea d’Lady, a grand-daughter of champion sprinter Gold Beauty from the family of Group I stars such as Dayjur, Sky Beauty, Tale of Ekati, Pleasant Home and Point of Entry.
