Mouffy Secures First Stakes Win in Turf Sprint
It was a first career stakes victory for Mouffy (4f Uncle Mo x Truly Together, by Smart Strike) when she won the Ellis Park Turf Stakes.
Making her stakes debut after winning last out, the Augustin Stables homebred raced a few lengths behind the leaders in the 1 1/16-mile turf race. She had to drop back a few more lengths down the backstretch before finding room when switching outside a few horses.
Slipping between a few horses turning into the stretch, she engaged the leader inside the final sixteenth and had a length on that runner by the time they crossed the line.
Trained by Jonathan Thomas, Mouffy has won four of her six career starts with just one off-the-board finish.
Out of the Grade III-placed Truly Together, Mouffy is a granddaughter of champion Forever Together, who also produced the stakes placed Smart Together.
Truly Together has a juvenile full brother to Mouffy named Uncle Truly who is working regularly at Turfway Park.
Uncle Mo’s 13 stakes winners is second best among all North American sires in 2023 with his 25 stakes performers tied with Munnings as third best among all sires.
