Munnings’ Jaxon Traveler Romps in David M. Vance

Jaxon Traveler (6h Munnings x Listen Boy, by After Market) returned to the stakes winner’s circle on Sunday evening with a win in the David M. Vance Stakes.

Breaking from the inside hole in the six-furlong dirt race, Jaxon Traveler used his rail-side position to shoot to the lead. Racing in a three-way duel for the lead early on, he settled with his head in front and Stewart Elliott looked to have supreme confidence in his mount around the turn.

In the stretch, there wasn’t much work to be done as Jaxon Traveler rolled to a 3 1/2 length win to push his earnings over $1 million.

Trained by Steve Asmussen for West Point Thoroughbreds, Jaxon Traveler has won 11 of his 33 starts with 13 other top three finishes. Eight of his 11 wins were at the stakes level, led by the Grade III Whitmore Stakes.

The Dr. and Mrs. A Leonard Pineau-bred horse is out of the stakes placed Listen Boy, who has produced six winners from six runners. Listen Boy is one of three stakes performers for her own dam alongside the stakes winning Monzon and stakes placed Aleutian Harbour.

Listen Boy had a three-quarter sister to Jaxon Traveler by Jack Christopher this year.

September has been another successful month for Munnings, who also saw son Howard Wolowitz win a Grade I on the turf and multiple yearlings step into the spotlight at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
