Munnings Runner Strikes Again in Spectacular Bid
It was a second stakes winner of the day at Laurel Park for Munnings on Saturday when Prince of Jericho (3c Munnings x Golden Review, by Medaglia d’Oro) won the Spectacular Bid Stakes.
Already stakes placed in his last start, Prince of Jericho cruised along early in the seven-furlong dirt race racing just behind the leading group as three of them dueled for the lead. Prince of Jericho joined them around the turn before flying past with just one horse sticking with him into the stretch.
In the final furlong, the jockey was able to put the whip away while Prince of Jericho cruised to a four length victory to become the second Munnings stakes winner of the day for trainer Brittany Russell. Raced by Michael Dubb and Morris Bailey, it’s one of three wins in five starts for the three-year-old, who has never finished worse than third in his career.
Bred by Edward Seltzer, Prince of Jericho is out of a half-sister to the Grade II winner Sparkling Review, who produced stakes placed Fawning, and to the dam of Grade III winner Bluebirds Over. Out of the successful broodmare Dance Review, his granddam is a half-sister to the Grade I winning No Review and Another Review and multiple graded stakes winner Dance Colony. The family also includes the multiple Grade I winning duo of Cavorting and Clairiere.
Munnings now joins Uncle Mo at the top of the North American sire list by 2023 stakes winners with three. He is also the sire of five stakes performers in 2023, the best of any North American stallion.
