Munnings’ Zia Brings $335,000 at Keeneland
Munnings’ daughter Zia was the co-most expensive horse to sell in the ring during Day 1 of the Keeneland January Sale on Monday when bringing $335,000 from Nicoma Bloodstock.
Consigned by Ballysax Bloodstock, the 8-year-old stakes placed Zia is a half-sister to stakes winner Sans Souci Island and the dam of Grade II winner Selflessly. The mare has three foals on the ground with her only foal of racing age already a winner.
“She’s a nice young mare," said Price Bell Jr. of Nicoma Bloodstock. "(The price) felt like a fair market for January. There is quite a bit more depth to come, so we were excited to try and strike early. We’ll get her back to the farm and figure out (her plans) from there.”
One of the leading sires of juveniles in 2019, Munnings is coming off a banner year where he sired 11 stakes winners and 24 stakes horses led by Grade II winner and Kentucky Oaks contender Finite.
