New 2YO Stakes-Winner for Declaration of War

The $150,000 Futurity Stakes at Belmont on Sunday was won by unbeaten colt Uncle Benny (2c Declaration of War x Celebrity Cat, by Storm Cat).

A debut winner at Monmouth back in August, the Jason Servis trained colt secured a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint with a last-to-first score in the six furlong turf sprint.

He hit the line hard to win by half a length and has now won two from two with earnings topping $104,000.

“Around Monmouth time, I told people he was one of my best 2-year-olds, so we're high on him,” said Jason Servis. “We think he's a nice horse, and he looks the part too. He's a big, good-looking horse. He's massive. He's got Storm Cat on the damside and his stallion won a couple of Grade I’s I think in Europe on the grass, so I wasn't worried about the turf.”

A $185,000 Fasig Tipton August Yearling Sale purchase, Uncle Benny is the best of two winners from Celebrity Cat, a daughter of dual Grade I winner Starrer.

Uncle Benny is the seventh stakes-winner worldwide for War Front’s Group I winning son Declaration of War.
