New G2 Winner for Uncle Mo
The $200,000 Grade II San Luis Rey Stakes at Santa Anita was won in good style by Epical (4g Uncle Mo x Klondike Hills, by Deputy Minister).
Trained by James Cassidy, Epical scored a career best win in the 1½ mile turf staying test, coasting clear to win by more than two lengths taking his overall record to four wins and three placings from 11 starts.
"He's a special horse," said winning rider Tyler Baze.
"I knew he was something all along."
His trainer was also well pleased with the win.
"The first time Tyler got on him, he said this horse would run three miles," Cassidy said. "(Epical's) not the kind who gets rattled when another runs alongside him. He's very kind.”
Epical is the best of five winners from Klondike Hills, a half-sister to Graded winners Strut the Stage and Sacred Song.
He is the 47th stakes-winner for Uncle Mo.
