New G3 Winner Lookin at Lucky
The $100,000 Grade III Appleton Stakes at Gulfstream on Friday provided a career best win for Dr Edgar (6g Lookin at Lucky x Sennockian Storm, by Storm Cat).
The Barclay Tagg trained gelding took up the early running and kept going to the line to hold off a late challenge and win the one mile turf contest by half a length.
“I thought he’d lay second all the way around and hopefully win,” said Barclay Tagg. “He went right to the front and opened up a little on the backside--I got a little worried then. Julien [Leparoux] gave him a little breather and went on to win it. He’s knows the horse and he’s an excellent rider.”
Dr Edgar has the overall record of six wins and six placings from 19 starts with earnings in excess of $280,000.
A half-brother to stakes-placed Honey Bunny, Dr Edgar is from Sennockian Storm, a daughter of stakes-winner Winning Season.
He is the 42nd stakes-winner for Lookin at Lucky, who enjoyed great results in 2018 with his progeny headlined by multiple Grade I winner Accelerate.
