New Stakes Winner for Competitive Edge
Exciting young sire Competitive Edge produced two of the first three home in the $200,000 Seeking the Ante Stakes at Saratoga on Friday when Fierce Lady (2f Competitive Edge x Anjorie, by AP Jet) scored a determined victory with My Italian Rabbi (2f Competitive Edge x Golden Miss, by Golden Missile) in third place.
A $52,000 KEEJAN short yearling, Fierce Lady was purchased by her trainer for $75,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale. She then RNA’d for $170,000 at OBS March after breezing an eighth in 10 seconds flat.
She earned TDN Rising Star status for her dazzling debut win at Belmont back in June and was then a close second to My Italian Rabbi in the Stillwater Stakes before turning the tables on that rival this time around.
The Dermot Magner trained filly finished off well from off the pace and scored a neck win in the six and a half furlong dash and has now won two of three starts earning over $164,000 in prizemoney.
“She's a little racehorse. I was hoping they were going pretty hard [up front] from where we were sitting. It was a brilliant ride, an intelligent ride. We'll take her back to Belmont and give her a few weeks off and look at the New York-bred races down there,” said Dermot Magner.
Fierce Lady is the second stakes-winner for Competitive Edge.
