New Stakes-Winner for Uncle Mo
Last year’s Champion First Crop Sire, Uncle Mo has been onwards and upwards this year and added another new stakes-winner to his tally when Name Changer (3c Uncle Mo x Cash’s Girl, by Northern Afleet) was successful in the $100,000 Richard W Small Stakes at Laurel on the weekend.
Third in the Grade II West Virginia Derby earlier this year, the Alan Goldberg trained colt won the 1 and 1/8th mile contest by two and a quarter lengths taking his overall record to four wins from nine starts with prizemoney topping $242,000.
“He broke perfect today,” winning rider Jevian Toledo said.
“We ended up getting in behind the speed and I was able to sit right behind the leaders. I had plenty of horse late. He just kicked away and kept going.”
