Old Town Road Continues Winning Ways at Keeneland

Classic Empire’s Old Town Road (2c Classic Empire x Pi Bella, by Pioneering) continued his winning ways on Sunday at Keeneland when he took his record to three-from-three.

Trained by Wesley Ward for Colonel Stable, Old Town Road was staying at the six furlongs on dirt he had conquered last time in a move that paid off well for connections. The colt tracked the leader early when confidently handled by Tyler Gaffalione and was gone as soon as he was asked.

Old Town Road pulled away under his own power with Gaffalione giving him a hand ride to the line for a 4 ½ length victory.

Racing for his breeder, Old Town Road has won his three starts by a combined 10 lengths.

The juvenile is out of the Pioneering mare Pi Bella, who won five races in her career and was stakes placed in another. She has produced four winners from four to race and is one of eight winners out of her own dam.

That mare is also the dam of multiple stakes winner Carbella and the dam of stakes winner Sky Of Hook.

The sire of five stakes performers, led by two stakes winners, Classic Empire’s 13 winners have scored a combined 19 wins between them. A champion juvenile racehorse himself, Classic Empire is also the sire of two graded stakes fourth place finishers including a Grade I fourth by Forever Estreli.
