Scharbauer Buys $675,000 Justify Filly at Keeneland September

A $675,000 filly out of stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Milam was the most expensive of Book 2 for Justify at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when selling to Douglas Scharbauer.

Consigned by Eaton on behalf of WinStar Farm Bred and Raised, the filly is the fifth for Milam, who has seen one of her two to race win. Milam is a half-sister to champion Rushing Fall and stakes placed Autumn Song among those out of Autumnal. Another daughter of that mare also produced stakes winner Empire Line and Grade III-placed Hang a Star.

This is the second Justify foal for Milam, whose 2-year-old by the stallion is the placed Ortelius. Ortelius was a $1.1 million yearling in 2022.

D.J. Stable struck for a $525,000 filly from the Taylor Made consignment out of the winning Dreams Are Made.

Bred by Breeze Easy, the colt is out of a half-sister to Grade I-placed Luminance and a full sister to multiple graded stakes placed Stellar Sound with the trio out of Siren Serenade. Out of multiple Grade I winner Versailles Treaty, Siren Serenade is a half-sister to Grade I winner George Vancouver and Grade II winner Saarland.

One of Versailles Treaty’s daughters is also the granddam of the Grade I-winning Mongolian Groom.

Justify’s other Book 2 offerings sold for $450,000, $350,000 $340,000, etc. with his 36 yearlings sold during the first two books of Keeneland September averaging $399,861 with a $267,500 median.
