Second Oaks Win for Lady of Shamrock
Classy performer Lady of Shamrock (3f Scat Daddy x Blushing Issue, by Blushing John) cemented her standing as the best turf filly on the West Coast when scoring an impressive last to first win in the $300,000 Grade I Del Mar Oaks.
The John Sadler trained filly has improved at every outing this year and was sent out favourite for this 1 and 1/8th mile assignment on the strength of her last start win in the Grade I American Oaks.
Partnered again by Mike Smith, Lady of Shamrock settled at the tail of the field and surged home out wide to score a stylish half length win, her overall record now six wins and a two placings from 10 starts with prizemoney of $645,400.
"She’s one of those fillies with such a wicked turn of foot that you have to be careful," Smith said. "If you niggle on her a little bit, she goes from last to first right now. You’ve got to trust her. Taking the overland was no problem. No problem at all with her.”
Raced by Hronis Racing LLC, Lady of Shamrock is a half-sister to Grade II winner Smooth Jazz, stakes-winner She’s Sensational and is one of five winners from Blushing Issue, a half-sister to Grade I winner Royal Chariot.
She is one of a slew of smart runners in 2012 for last year’s US Champion First Season Sire Scat Daddy, joining Grade II UAE Derby winner Daddy Long Legs and Grade III Sunland Derby winner Daddy Nose Best.
