Showcase Newest ‘Rising Star’ For Uncle Mo

For the third straight day, Uncle Mo sired a juvenile winner with Saturday’s winner Showcase (2c Uncle Mo x Buy Sell Hold, by Violence) catching the eye at Aqueduct to earn Thoroughbred Daily News Rising Star honors.

Making his debut after registering two straight bullets at Saratoga in his past two works, the colt raced over 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt as the race favorite. A bobble out of the gate had him breaking a step slow, but he quickly recovered to race close behind the leader. Asked to go to the lead with a quarter mile left to run, he responded well and pulled away in the stretch to win by 7 ½ lengths.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Harrell Ventures, he was a $300,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase by Roy McAvoy from Machmer Hall Sales.

The WinStar Farm-bred is out of the stakes winning Buy Sell Hold, who is also the dam of multiple stakes placed runner Bourbon Bash, who was also fourth in last year’s Grade I Hopeful Stakes. Buy Sell Hold is a full sister to the Grade I winning Volatile out of the stakes winning Melody Lady, who is out of dual Grade I winner Lady Tak.

This is the fourth juvenile winner of the year for Uncle Mo from seven runners, tying him seventh among all North American sires. The stallion has also sired three stakes winners in the last seven days.
