Souper Hoity Toity Registers Third Graded Stakes Win

It was a third career graded stakes victory for Souper Hoity Toity (4f Uncle Mo x Town Tour, by Speightstown) at Woodbine on Saturday when she won the Grade III Belle Mahone Stakes.

Breaking as one of the first ones out of the gate in the 1 1/16-mile synthetic race, Souper Hoity Toity quickly took the lead and set the pace around the track. Challenged every step of the way, the Live Oak Plantation representative briefly gave up the lead around the turn by a small margin before coming back to take over control.

Her greatest challenge was baring down on her down the stretch when last year’s Canadian Horse of the year Moira started running her down but Souper Hoity Toity had enough left to dig in and hold that one off by a neck.

“From looking at the Racing Form – Mark doesn’t give me instructions, he depends on me – there was no speed in the race,” jockey Patrick Husbands said. “The only way I could beat this filly [Moira] today, I’ve got to walk this race. If I walk this race, she can’t get out. She [Souper Hoity Toity] is all guts.”

It was the sixth win in 10 starts for the Mark Casse-trained Souper Hoity Toity, who has finished in the top two in seven of her starts. The filly has won four stakes in her career with a second in another stakes as well. She has only finished worse than fourth once in her career.

A $550,000 purchase by her racing owner from Al Pike at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds, Souper Hoity Toity was bred by Dr. Richard Holder and Coolmore in Kentucky and has raced exclusively at Woodbine outside of two starts in the United States.

Out of the winning Tour Town, Souper Hoity Toity is a full sister to Uncle Mo’s winning Mo Town Mayhem with the pair two of three winners from three named foals out of their dam. Town Tour is a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Moonshine Memories and stakes winning Indian Evening in addition to Uncle Mo’s stakes placed Mo For The Money.

Town Tour’s granddam is the stakes winning Evil Elaine, the dam of Horse of the Year Favorite Trick and the granddam of Uncle Mo’s four-time Grade I winning studmate Tiz The Law.

Uncle Mo’s five graded stakes winners in 2023 is third best of all North American stallions this year with his 17 stakes performers fourth best of the group.
