Stakes Success for Tale of the Cat Filly
Promising filly Enchanting Lady (3f Tale of the Cat x AP Baby, by AP Indy) scored her first Black Type win this year when taking out the $77,050 Santa Paula Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday.
A stakes-winner at Santa Anita last year, the Bob Baffert trained filly improved on a first up fifth in the Grade III Santa Ysabel Stakes to win this six and a half furlong sprint by two and a half lengths for in form-owner Kaleem Shah.
“The last few days have been a lot fun,” said Shah, whose star colt Dortmund won the Santa Anita Derby, while his filly Luminance (3f Tale of the Cat x Siren Serenade, by Unbridled’s Song) was second in the Santa Anita Oaks.
“I named this filly after my wife and she really came through today. I had a lot of confidence coming into today. Bob told me she’s good sprinting and hopefully she can continue to move forward off of this.”
A $90,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase, Enchanting Lady blossomed as a two year-old to fetch $650,000 at the OBS March Sale last year after breezing a furlong in a tick over 10 seconds.
She has now won two races and finished second once from just four starts earning over $134,000 in prizemoney.
Another high class filly for Tale of the Cat, Enchanting Lady is the first stakes-winner for AP Baby, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Grade III winner Olmodavor.
