Stakes Winner Betwithbothhands Leads Uncle Mo Double at Ellis
It was a strong day for Uncle Mo at Ellis Park when Betwithbothhands (5g Uncle Mo x Bet On Kitten, by Kitten’s Joy) won the Kentucky Downs TVG Preview Mint Million only a few races after he had a 9 ¼ length Allowance winner.
A mile on the turf saw Betwithbothhands entering a duel for the lead nearly from the gate. Early on, they had multiple lengths on the field but as they turned into the stretch it was a tight race.
Betwithbothhands proved that he had been holding back and had enough energy left to win by half a length in a track record-setting 1:32.05.
It was the eighth career victory for the Armando Hernandez-owned and trained gelding. In all, Betwithbothhands has finished in the top three in 10 of 21 starts for $156,446 in earnings.
Bred by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Betwithbothhands is a grandson of multiple stakes winner Talking Treasure. The family also includes Grade II winner Sue’s Fortune as well.
Uncle Mo’s Allege (4c Uncle Mo x Out for Revenge, by Bernardini) continued trainer Steve Asmussen’s good weekend on Sunday with a 9 ¼ length run away Allowance victory.
A mile on the dirt gave Allege everything he needed to be successful, with the runner shadowing the two front runners around the first turn. Jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. let his mount motor closer to the leaders and the pair raced wide around the far turn.
Rolling past the leader right before they hit the top of the stretch, Allege continued to pull away during the stretch run with no one able to reach him.
Owned by Chuck Hovitz, Gene Voss, and Wayne Detmar, Allege was a $375,000 OBS March purchase in 2019 from the Paul Sharp consignment.
In Saratoga, Uncle Mo was also represented when his stakes winning daughter Hendy Woods finished second in the Fasig-Tipton De la Rose Stakes while Family Way wrapped up Uncle Mo’s day at Ellis Park with a third in the Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Cup.
