Successful Fasig-Tipton Saratoga for Pharoah

It was a big Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale for American Pharoah this week as both a sire and broodmare sire.

Offered by Airdrie Stud, a colt out of Indian Pride sold for $600,000 to Gus King on Monday. The colt is the first foal out of the stakes winner and Grade II-placed Indian Pride. Indian Pride is one of three stakes winners out of Ms. Cornstalk, who also produced Canadian Horse of the Year Biofuel and Canadian champion Tu Endie Wei.

Ms. Cornstalk also produced the stakes placed Homer Matt and the dam of Lookin At Lucky’s Grade III-placed Mrs. Astor. The colt’s third dam is also the dam of Grade II winner Dansil while his stakes placed fourth dam Shell Dancer is the dam of stakes placed Jamaican Spell.

American Pharaoh was also the damsire of the $3.2 million colt purchased by Donato Lanni for Zedan Racing from Indian Creek. The second most expensive offering of the sale, his dam All American Dream is a half-sister to stakes winner Wind Fire and Uncle Mo’s stakes placed Bloodline.

“This was a pretty exceptional horse,” Lanni told Thoroughbred Daily News. “He had the Into Mischief and American Pharoah look. Every time I walked by that barn, he was out for somebody. But he did everything right every time. He just never seemed to have a bad moment. It is really rare to find a horse that is that cool. We couldn't go home without him.”

Another one of All American Dream’s half-sisters is the dam of Practical Joke’s stakes winner and Grade III-placed Shidabhuti. This colt’s third dam is another successful mare on the track and in the breeding shed with Dream Supreme winning two Grade Is and producing Grade I winner Majestic Warrior.

It has been another successful year on the track for American Pharoah, who has sired six stakes winners and 14 stakes performers in 2023, led by a Grade I winner and four other graded stakes victors.
