Swiftsure Continues Winning Ways At Oaklawn
Swiftsure (3c Uncle Mo x Island Saint, by Speightstown) made easy work of another race on Saturday with a victory in an Oaklawn Allowance.
Breaking well in the six furlong contest, Swiftsure was happy to race in second as the leader bolted open lengths ahead of the field. As that runner started tiring around the turn, Swiftsure took advantage and had his measure as they entered the stretch.
Multiple horses tried to challenge Swiftsure but in the end he was the easiest of winners when giving trainer Steve Asmussen his 700th Oaklawn victory by 3 1/2 lengths.
Raced by breeder Siena Farms and Asmussenequine.com, Swiftsure is undefeated in his first two starts after breaking his maiden by 3 ¼ lengths at Fair Grounds in late November.
The first foal out of Grade II-placed Island Saint, Swiftsure is a grandson of Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Prospective Saint. Swiftsure is also one of six winners from six to race by Uncle Mo out of Speightstown mares, led by Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Laoban.
Uncle Mo is coming off a top 2020 that saw him as both a leading sire and an emerging sire-of-sires with 22 stakes winners and his sons ranking in three of the top five spots on last year’s Freshman Sire list.
