‘Tiara’ Victory For Lookin At Lucky’s Lucky Long
Lookin At Lucky’s Lucky Long (5m Lookin At Lucky x Very Very, by Royal Academy) put her sire in the headlines on Saturday when the mare won the Claiming Crown Tiara at Gulfstream Park.
Running over 1 1/16 miles on turf, the stakes winner raced comfortably a path off the rail in midpack for much of the race. She moved closer to the leaders as they approached the far turn and by the time the field swung into the stretch was one of many chances to win the race. She was gunning for the lead down the stretch and didn't face much opposition with the leaders conceding the lead within only a few strides to see Lucky Long win by three quarters of a length.
The winner of the Mary Todd Stakes at Gulfstream Park three starts ago, this is the third win of the year for Lucky Long and sixth of her career.
Trained by Rohan Crichton for Robert J. Stack, she was a $125,000 yearling purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale from the Romans Racing & Sales consignment. She is one of seven winners from eight to race out of her stakes winning dam Very Very, who is also the granddam of Listed winner Remember Daisy. Very Very is out of stakes winning Annual Dance, a half-sister to two other stakes winners.
Lucky Long is bred on the Lookin At Lucky x Royal Academy cross that has produced eight winners from 10 runners, including stakes placed Rich Lady and Richman.
