Uncle Chuck Another Impressive Winner For Uncle Mo

Uncle Mo’s Uncle Chuck (3c Uncle Mo x Forest Music, by Unbridled’s Song) made the perfect start to his career at Santa Anita in a Maiden on Friday with a seven length romp.

Running over a mile on the dirt, Uncle Chuck broke a step slowly but took advantage of his rail position to race into the lead. The even-money favorite, Uncle Chuck had a horse on his hip for most of the early part of the race but was confidently ridden by Mike Smith through solid fractions.

Three furlongs from the wire, Uncle Chuck started pulling away to leave the turn four lengths ahead. A bit green in the stretch, he easily galloped home seven lengths in front of his stablemate for trainer Bob Baffert.

Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, the colt was purchased by Karl Watson, Michael Pegram, and Paul Weitman at the 2018 Keeneland September Sale.

Uncle Chuck is a half-brother to the Grade III winning duo of Kentuckian and Electric Forest with their Grade II winning dam having a 100 percent winning strike rate from her five foals to race.

Forest Music is also a half-sister to Grade III winner Shooter from the family of Singapore Champion Quechua, Brazil Champion 2-Year-Old English Major and Grade I winners Antonella Baby, Diesmal, and Quiz Kid.

One of the top young sires in the world, Uncle Mo is having another classic year with his Modernist and Pneumatic both aiming for next weekend’s Grade I Belmont Stakes.
