Uncle Mo Colt Earns ‘Rising Star’ Honors on Debut
Uncle Mo’s Star of Wonder (3c Uncle Mo x Starship Warpspeed, by Congrats) caught the eye on Sunday when the colt put in a Thoroughbred Daily News Rising Star performance on debut.
Racing over a sloppy Churchill Downs track in the one-mile race, he was happy to sit back early and watch the show as the leaders set a fast pace. Sent wide around the turn by jockey Flavien Prat, the Brad Cox trainee raced down the middle of the track in the stretch to get the job done with a 3 ½ length victory.
Bred by WinStar Farm, Star of Wonder saw Siena Farm join his ownership for his racing career.
Star of Wonder is a half-brother to the great racemare Shedaresthedevil, who also broke her maiden at this track before going on to win 10 races, led by three Grade Is. Their dam Starship Warpspeed also produced the Grade III placed Mojovation among her six winners from six to race. The mare is one of two stakes producers out of Andria’s Forest with another daughter producing the stakes winning Laughing Boy.
Andria’s Forest is a half-sister to the Grade II winner and multiple Grade I-placed Crafty C.T. and stakes winner Carmen’s Baby.
Starship Warpspeed is also the dam of a 2-year-old Uncle Mo filly who sold for $2.5 million at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, the second highest priced horse at that sale.
