Uncle Mo Colt Tops Session at $2.3 Million

Breezing in :9.4 put Uncle Mo’s Hip 206 on the radar of multiple buyers and during Tuesday’s session of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds In Training they entered a bidding war with Gary Young winning with a final bid of $2.3 million.

Young purchased the colt from Top Line Sales on behalf of Zedan Racing Stables eight months after he had sold for $250,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Bred by Corser Thoroughbreds, who also consigned him at Keeneland the colt is the first out of the Astrology mare Borealis Night.

That mare is a three-quarter sister to Grade II-placed Kinsley Kisses and Grade III-placed Spooky Woods. The page also includes stakes winners Ever Elusive and Saratoga Summer.

"He was a tremendous athlete; everything about his preview was good,” Young told Blood-Horse. “When I went and saw him in the barn, he was very nice. Mr. Zedan wants good colts running this time of the year."

Young was joined by Bob Baffert ringside while bidding with the colt scheduled to be trained by that dual Triple Crown winning trainer.

The Uncle Mo x A.P. Indy granddaughter cross this colt is bred on has five graded stakes winners and nine stakes performers, led by Uncle Mo’s Grade I winning son and studmate Mo Town.

Uncle Mo also had a filly out of Birdy Num sell to Grace Diamond from Niall Brennen Stables for $425,000. The filly is out of a full sister to stakes winner Believe In Royalty and a granddaughter of Grade I Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can.

Uncle Mo is the sire of 11 stakes performers and five stakes winners in 2022, led by four graded stakes winners. The stallion has also quickly proven to be a sire-of-sires with his first sons at stud.
