Uncle Mo Daughter Kicks Off 2023 With Ladies Stakes Victory
It was a second stakes winner in two days for Uncle Mo on Sunday when Falconet (4f Uncle Mo x Birdatthewire, by Summer Bird) kicked off her year in the Ladies Stakes at Aqueduct.
A multiple stakes placed runner, the Todd Pletcher trainee was never far from the pacesetting Exotic West in the 1 1/8 mile dirt race with Jose Lezcano keeping her wide throughout the early running. He moved her in a path around the turn and started asking her to move closer around the turn.
The 4-year-old took command with just over a quarter of a mile left to run and built up a sizable lead before a late runner cut her margin to two lengths at the end.
“She broke good for me and she was there the whole way. When I asked her, she went on and won the race. She did everything right today,” Lezcano said.
Falconet has finished in the top two in six of her seven starts for $312,340 in earnings for breeder and co-owner WinStar Farm and co-owner CHC Inc, who bought her for $250,000 as a yearling.
The filly is the first foal out of Grade I winner Birdatthewire, who is also a half-sister to the dam of stakes winner Miss Conveyance.
Falconet is the 87th worldwide stakes winner for Uncle Mo and the eighth from his 2019 crop that also included Grade I Belmont Stakes winner Mo Donegal.
