Uncle Mo Filly Scores Second Stakes Victory In G3 Selene
It was a second stakes victory for Sabatini (3f Uncle Mo x Gabriellestoblame, by Blame) on Saturday when she won the Grade III Selene Stakes.
Making her first attempt at the graded stakes level, Sabatini was first out of the gate in the 1 1/16-mile race on Woodbine’s All Weather track before tucking into the rail behind the leaders. Happy to relax in that spot when rated, she picked up the pace when they hit the quarter pole, and she was angled wide.
Sent between rivals at the top of the stretch, she was asked to run with a furlong left and quickly complied to win going away by two lengths.
The winner of two of her four starts with a stakes second and a Maiden Special Weight third rounding out her runs, she is trained by Josie Carroll. The 3-year-old filly was purchased as a 2-year-old for $625,000 by Solis/Litt from Pick View and races for NK Racing and LNJ Foxwoods.
“First couple of works, she wowed us from the start,” said trainer Josie Carroll. “You know, just if you look at her physically, she’s outstanding looking, and her turn of foot was unbelievable. Great demeanor, great mind. She’s just got all the parts.”
Bred by Bridlewood Farm, she is out of the winning Gabriellestoblame.
Gabriellestoblame is a half-sister to Uncle Mo’s champion Nyquist, making the winner similarly bred to that Grade I Kentucky Derby winner. Sabatini’s granddam Seeking Gabrielle is a half-sister to Grade III winner Seeking The Sky and three others with Seeking the Sky producing Grade I winner Sahara Sky.
Gabriellestoblame had a full sister to Sabatini in 2022.
Uncle Mo is the sire of six stakes winners in 2024 with his 14 stakes performers led by Grade I winner Adare Manor.
