Uncle Mo Filly Starts Career On High Note Under Twin Spires

Uncle Mo’s well-bred $500,000 yearling filly Summer Promise (2f Uncle Mo x Dream of Summer, by Siberian Summer) came out running in her debut on Saturday to earn Thoroughbred Daily News Rising Star honors in a Churchill Downs Maiden Special Weight.

The D. Wayne Lukas trainee was quick out of the gate and bolted to the lead to hold at least a length on the field at every call of the five-furlong dirt race. David Cohen decided to test the filly’s closing kick in the stretch and before the field knew what hit them, she was crossing the line five lengths the best with Mo Town’s race favorite Key of Life in third.

Signed for at the sales by her trainer, Summer Promise is owned by BC Stables. She was consigned to the Keeneland September Sale by Taylor Made on behalf of breeder James C. Weigel.

The filly is out of Grade I winner Dream of Summer, who has had an even better career as a broodmare as the dam of Grade I winners Vexatious and Creative Cause and the multiple Grade II winner and Grade I Belmont Stakes-placed Destin. The dam of eight winners from 11 to race, she has also produced two stakes producers as well.

Dream of Summer had a Justify colt last year and visited Justify again for 2022.

This is the third 2-year-old winner from a handful of juvenile runners for Uncle Mo in 2022. All three have scored their victories under the twin spires.
