Uncle Mo In Demand at Fasig-Tipton November
The always-popular Uncle Mo continued that trend during Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale with both his weanlings and his in-foal mares.
Uncle Mo saw a weanling out of Knarsdale bring $400,000 from Glen Hill Farm as the fourth most expensive of the sale.
Consigned by Scott Mallory as agent, the colt is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Knarsdale, who is one of two stakes performers for Grade III-placed Secret File. He comes from the family of American Pharoah’s stakes winner and Grade II Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint third Another Miracle.
An Eaton Sales consigned colt out of Kallio sold for $310,000 to Hunter Valley Farm as his sire’s second most expensive weanling of the sale.
That colt’s dam is a Grade III winning Scat Daddy mare, who is also a half-sister to stakes winner Clear The Runway and stakes-placed Sallisaw. The family also includes Group I winner Oratorio among others with all three of his dams on the page to have runners producing at least one stakes horse.
Those wanting future foals by Uncle Mo were even more eager than the weanling buyers with $2.6 million Carina Mia topping the six mares sold in foal to the champion sire.
Purchased by Shadai Farm from Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, the Grade I winner is in foal to Uncle Mo on a March 30 cover for her third foal. The winner of $1.4 million with 13 top three finishes, she is one of two Grade I winners for her dam alongside Miss Match. Her dam is also a sibling to Group I winners in champion Miss Linda, who produced the late multiple Grade I winner Lord Nelson, and champion Mr. Nancho.
Carina Mia was joined in the $1 million club by champion Take Charge Brandi, who sold for $1.15 million to Three Chimneys Farm from the Hill ‘n’ Dale consignment.
By Ashford’s late, great Giant’s Causeway, Take Charge Brandi is out of Charming. That mare has also produced three-time Grade I winner Omaha Beach and Grade I-placed Courage Under Fire in addition to being a daughter of Broodmare of the year Take Charge Lady.
That mare has produced American Pharoah’s multiple Grade II winner As Time Goes By in addition to Grade I winners Will Take Charge and Take Charge Indy.
Take Charge Brandi has two foals to race with both placed in 2021. She also has a Justify yearling filly named Justly.
The third in the millionaire club for Uncle Mo was the Bernardini mare Havisham, who sold to Stonestreet for $1.15 million as well.
Havisham is already a top producing mare as the dam of Grade I Kentucky Oaks winner Serengeti Empress and one other winner from three to race. Unraced herself, Havisham is out of the Grade III winning Love Dancing, who is one of three stakes performers for her own Grade II winning dam Le Midi.
The five mares to sell in foal to Uncle Mo averaged $1.125 million with a median of $1.15 million.
