Uncle Mo Mare Wins by Daylight
Lightly raced Kathryn the Wise (6m Uncle Mo x Shea d'Lady, by Crafty Prospector) scored a resounding victory in the $102,650 La Verdad Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday.
A homebred for Lawrence Goichman prepared by Chad Brown, Kathryn the Wise has been raced sparingly, but showed 2019 may be a very good year for her when bolting clear to win the seven furlong sprint by 10¾ lengths.
“She likes the slop, and she performed in it today,” said Chad Brown’s assistant Whit Beckman. “The plan was to see if she could get to the lead easily and she did just that. She rated up front nicely and kicked away when asked. Good performance from her to start the year and we'll see how she comes out it before deciding what's next.”
Already a stakes-winner before this win, Kathryn the Wise has won four of six starts earning over $260,000 in prizemoney.
She is the best of three winners from Shea d’Lady, a grand-daughter of champion sprinter Gold Beauty from the family of Group I stars such as Dayjur, Sky Beauty, Tale of Ekati, Pleasant Home and Point of Entry.
