Uncle Mo’s Hendy Woods Wins Indiana Grand Stakes
Stonestreet Stables’ Hendy Woods (3f Uncle Mo x Separate Forest, by Forestry) became her sire’s 59th stakes winner on Wednesday with a victory in the Listed Indiana Grand Stakes.
Racing over a mile on turf in her fourth career start, the Mark Casse trainee broke from a wide draw and immediately went just a few paths off the rail between horses at the back of the field. Racing with Declan Carroll aboard, Hendy Woods moved up with most of the field around the far turn and found herself five wide as they entered the stretch.
Having a clear path in front of her, the 3-year-old made the most of it with her big stride bringing her to the leaders in the shadow of the wire. It was a suspenseful last second rush that allowed Hendy Woods to get her neck in front and take her record to three-from four.
Also bred by Stonestreet, the filly is one of three winners from three runners out of Grade III winner Separate Forest, who is also a half-sister to Grade II winner and Panama champion Indiano.
A leading sire year after year, Uncle Mo is the sire of 107 stakes horses led by eight Grade I winners. In 2020 alone, Uncle Mo has sired 26 stakes horses including 10 stakes winners and seven graded stakes winners.
